A FEW PRACTICAL DETAILS

Before you roll.

How do I record and save a video?

Select Start recording and choose a screen, window or tab in your browser prompt. Use Pause and Resume as needed, then Stop. Preview your take and select Download video to save it. Discard the take to start another. This version records silent video only.

Does my recording leave my device?

No recording is uploaded. Video stays in this tab's memory, with no accounts, analytics or recording history. Only Download video requests a local file save. Closing or reloading the tab loses an unsaved take; download it first. Discard removes the in-tab take, not downloaded files.

Why is screen sharing unavailable or denied?

Use HTTPS or localhost and a desktop browser that supports getDisplayMedia and MediaRecorder. Mobile browsers may not support screen capture. Your browser asks permission for each recording; Local Lens cannot choose a screen silently. If you cancel or deny sharing, select Start recording to retry and check browser or operating-system permissions.

What are the length, audio and file limits?

Recording stops after five minutes of wall time, including pauses, or 100 MiB of encoded data. A final chunk and memory overhead can exceed that size. Audio, editing and format conversion are not included. Downloads use the browser's supported WebM or MP4 format. Protected content may be blank; check the preview before sharing your file.
