How to keep score across Pocket Arcade rematches

Use New round to clear the board while keeping Pocket Arcade?s session scores. Use Reset scores & round to begin a separate series with zero totals. Changing opponent or difficulty also clears the board but retains scores, so reset explicitly if you want results for just one matchup. Refreshing or closing the page clears the session.

Open Pocket Arcade

Set the matchup before starting your series

For a series of rematches, choose who is playing before counting results. Select Computer and a level, or select Local friend for two people sharing one device. Against the computer, you play X and the computer plays O. In local play, decide who will keep each mark through the series so the scoreboard remains easy to interpret.

X starts every round; the app does not alternate the opening player. For example, if two friends agree to play five rounds with Alex as X and Sam as O, Alex opens all five. Settle that before the first move rather than assuming the opening turn will switch after a win.

Finish a round before clearing the board

A round contributes one result when a move produces a win or draw. The session scoreboard has separate X, O and draw totals. Winning cells are highlighted, and the board stops accepting moves once the round ends. Read the result before starting the next board; a draw belongs in its own total rather than either player?s win count.

An unfinished board contributes nothing to those totals. If you clear a round after only three moves, neither player receives a result for it. For a five-round series, count completed wins and draws, not how many times someone has pressed New round.

Use New round for the next rematch

After a completed game, select New round to keep the running score and start with an empty board. X moves first again. If the scoreboard shows two X wins, one O win and one draw, those four results remain visible while you play the fifth round.

The same control can abandon a round in progress. It also cancels a pending computer turn, so you can start over while the computer is thinking without carrying that scheduled reply into the new board. There is no move history to recover the position you cleared; use the control when you are ready to discard that board.

Reset totals when the matchup changes

Changing to a different opponent or computer level starts a fresh round but keeps the session totals. The scoreboard therefore describes the whole session, not a separate record for Easy, Medium, Hard or Local friend. Switching modes also changes the labels: the computer view identifies you and the CPU, while local play identifies Player X and Player O.

For example, three X wins earned against Easy remain on the scoreboard after you choose Hard. They do not become three wins against Hard. To keep a separate Hard series, choose Hard and then select Reset scores & round. Use the same approach when handing the device to a new pair of players.

Treat Reset scores & round as a fresh start

Reset scores & round clears all three totals and the current board together. It is not a way to zero the scoreboard while continuing the position on screen. If a game is underway, finish it first if you want that result included in your existing series, then note the totals before clearing them.

There is no confirmation step in the reset handler. Both reset controls act immediately, so check which label you are selecting: New round preserves the running results, while Reset scores & round begins again at zero.

Record any result you want to keep before leaving

Pocket Arcade holds the board and scores only in JavaScript memory. Refreshing or closing the page clears them. If you want to remember that a series finished with X winning three rounds, O winning one and two draws, write that down before leaving or refreshing.

The app has no saved history or account record to reopen later. Its scoreboard works for a continuous play session, including rematches on the same device; it is not a lasting league table. Start a later session expecting a clean board and zero totals.

Frequently asked questions

Why did my scores stay after I changed difficulty?

Opponent and level changes reset the round without clearing the session totals. Select Reset scores & round after choosing the new level if you want a separate set of results.

Can I reset the scores without clearing the current game?

No. Reset scores & round clears both the totals and the board. New round clears only the board and preserves the scores.

Does an abandoned round count as a draw?

No. A result is added only when a move completes a win or fills the board without a winning line. Clearing an unfinished round adds nothing.

Can I restore my score after refreshing?

No. Board state and scores exist only in memory, and the app has no saved history. Record any totals you want to keep before refreshing or closing the page.
