How to choose audio for a LocalLoom screen recording
Turn Microphone on to record your voice, or leave it off to use shared audio when your browser provides it. LocalLoom records only one audio source and cannot mix narration with computer sound. Make a short recording, stop it, and play the prepared preview to check the result before your full take.
Decide what the listener needs to hear
For a narrated bug report, turn Microphone on before selecting Start recording. For a demonstration where the sound from a browser tab matters more than your voice, leave Microphone off. The choice controls which audio source to request; you still select the screen, window or tab in the browser prompt.
LocalLoom does not combine microphone and shared audio. For example, if you want to explain a music-player problem while also capturing the song, this version cannot record both sources together. Choose the sound that makes the problem understandable, or plan separate takes. There is no mixing control to enable later.
Choose the source and finish audio setup
Select Start recording and choose a source in the browser sharing prompt. With Microphone enabled, LocalLoom requests screen video without shared audio, then asks for microphone access. Approving screen sharing alone does not complete that microphone setup.
Wait for Recording in progress and the running timer before starting your explanation. The microphone switch is disabled during setup and recording. Set it before each take rather than planning to switch from narration to shared sound halfway through.
Treat microphone denial as a silent-video choice
If microphone access fails, the app displays a message and offers Continue without microphone. Use that button when the visual demonstration is enough. The resulting take is silent: microphone mode requested no shared audio, so continuing does not substitute computer sound for the denied microphone.
If narration is essential, end sharing through your browser instead, address the microphone permission or device issue, and try a new recording. The app explicitly offers ending sharing while it waits for your decision. Continuing silently is a way to finish a visual demonstration, not a way to repair microphone access.
Check a short take before the full walkthrough
Record a few seconds containing the actual sound you need: say a sentence for narration, or play a brief part of the tab content for shared audio. Select Stop recording, wait for Your recording is ready, then play the prepared preview using its video controls. Listen to the result before spending several minutes on the full explanation.
The live preview is muted by the app. Silence from that preview while you record therefore does not prove the saved take lacks audio. After stopping, LocalLoom enables playback controls and unmutes the prepared recording. With Microphone off, shared-audio availability still depends on the browser, operating system and selected source; the switch being off is no guarantee of sound.
Save the useful take before replacing it
Stop recording requests a download, but automatic saving is not guaranteed. Use Download recording if needed and confirm the file is saved before starting another take you want to keep separately. A new recording replaces the previous in-page result, so that preview is not a recording library.
If you end sharing through browser controls, or the five-minute or 100 MiB encoded-data limit stops the take, use the explicit Download recording control. Those stops prepare the video without requesting the automatic download used by the page?s Stop button. Unsaved video remains in page memory and is lost on closing or reloading. Discard releases the in-page result; downloaded files remain under your control.

Frequently asked questions
Can I record my voice and tab audio together?
No. Microphone takes priority when enabled. With it off, LocalLoom uses available shared audio. This version does not mix the two sources.
Does turning Microphone off guarantee a silent recording?
No. It requests shared audio along with screen video. The recording may contain shared audio if the browser supplies it, or be silent if no audio track is available.
Why can I not hear sound in the live preview?
LocalLoom mutes its live preview. Stop a short take and play the prepared recording, which has playback controls and is unmuted, to check the captured sound.
Will Continue without microphone record computer sound instead?
No. When Microphone was enabled, the screen-capture request excluded shared audio. The fallback continues with silent video rather than switching audio sources.
